Recently released results from the Champagne and Sparkling World Wine Championships prove WA wine has what it takes to compete with some of the finest world class Champagnes and sparklings from around the globe, with two sparklings from WA receiving gold medals.
Burch Family Wines was the only producer from WA to be bestowed medals in the competition, with it’s MadFish Vera’s Cuvee Sparkling awarded the Best Value Australian Sparkling wine of the competition, as well as a gold medal. The producer’s Howard Park 2010 Grand Jete Sparkling was also awarded a gold medal.
The competition was launched by renowned Champagne and sparkling writer Tom Stevenson, and is the first terroir-driven competition judged exclusively by internationally renowned Champagne and sparkling wine experts. Based in London, all wines entered into the competition are judged blind and evaluated strictly within the context of their origin and style, making no other contest quite as tough.
The Burch Family have shown a strong commitment to producing exceptionally high quality Methode Traditionelle sparkling wines, heavily investing in a dedicated program based in their Margaret River winery in 2008.
“These results prove our devotion to producing the highest quality sparkling wines,” said Jeff Burch, owner of Burch Family Wines. “We’re very proud.”
