MadFish Wines is an iconic, family-owned brand that is highly regarded locally and internationally. Classed among the best wineries in Margaret River, MadFish is inextricably linked to the rugged coastlines and ancient soils of the South West, focusing on enjoyment and drinkability. The wines reflect the exceptional fruit of Margaret River and Great Southern – fresh, pure, and clean.

The MadFish story begins in the far southern reaches of Western Australia, 15 kilometres from the quiet coastal town of Denmark, at the picturesque MadFish Bay. Here, it is said a colliding set of perfect circumstances can cause two tides to meet to dramatic effect. The opposing forces of these tides cause shoals of fish to break the ocean surface as if in a state of madness. The effect is a glistening display of the sublime power of nature. The interaction between the tides, wildlife, and coastal landscapes of MadFish Bay is unlike anything seen elsewhere in Western Australia. It is why we focus on preserving the unique characteristics of place in each of our wines.

Since 1992, MadFish has been producing an exciting range of contemporary, cool climate wines inspired by the wild, coastal and pure characteristics of Australia’s South West. Ranging from a vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot to a sweet Moscato, the flavour of the fruit is the primary focus. Located in Western Australia’s world-renowned wine region, MadFish is a shining example of Margaret River wine.

Fresh and satisfying, MadFish wines have always been about the simple pleasures of life: family, sun, surf, and, of course, good wine. Over the years, MadFish has gracefully evolved from just one wine, the MadFish Premium White, to offering a diverse range of over a dozen Great Southern and Margaret River wines that have attracted a large and loyal following across Australia and the world.

Origins

For MadFish founder, Jeff Burch, it was the incredible surf and gorgeous coastline that first drew him to the South West.  The stunning surroundings paired with the accompanying laidback lifestyle is what inspired the Burch family when first launching MadFish wines. Over the years, the dedicated MadFish winery and vineyard teams have taken this vision and made it into a reality by producing wines of place as well as easy enjoyability. Today, MadFish stands proud among the finest of Caves Road wineries.

MadFish wines are crafted from exceptional fruit sourced from two premium wine-growing regions in Western Australia: Margaret River and Great Southern. Margaret River is an idyllic landscape for winemaking, born of nourishing ancient soil and pristine conditions. The Great Southern is a wine region unlike any other. Protected by a stable, cool climate and lofty canopies, grapes from this area are of exceptional quality.

Our Margaret River Winery and Cellar Door may be our physical home in the South West, however, MadFish’s secret to success is its ability to draw from vineyards in different regions to craft crisp, complex wines.
